Biosphere Project: The Rain Forest
The Rain Forest

Pine Ridge Education Center is creating a cross-curriculum project in an effort to strengthen students’ math skills and knowledge of science concepts. Seventh and eighth grade students will create the Project in their math, science and social studies classes and will construct and implement the project.
Using a blue-print designed by their math teacher, the plant and animal life will be researched with the assistance of their science teacher. Geographical and historical information about rain forests will be researched in the social studies class.
The Rain Forest Project will allow students to use the concepts of perimeter, scale reduction and carbon-dating as well as increase students’ knowledge and understanding of earth, life and social sciences. Students will research plant growth, animal life and landscape design to create this project.

About Pine Ridge Education Center
A student who is no longer successful in the home school environment has individual needs that require intensive and specific interventions. Traditional school programs and services cannot remedy the crisis impacting the child, his family, or school community. Crisis management and long-term success can be achieved through a concentrated multifaceted intervention program that focuses on the child first. Comprehensive program development, individualized for each child, includes academic, therapeutic, behavioral, social, and vocational components. Careful treatment plan development identifies the specific focus, structure, and sequence of interventions that a new student requires. Concerted and diligent implementation of the treatment plan by a carefully assembled team of professional educators and support staff extends a lifeline of support to the child and his family and home school community. Attention to the specific needs of a child at the point-of-need assures the personal growth necessary to become a successful student once again in the most appropriate and unrestricted environment possible
Universal School
Pine Ridge has been selected as a Universal School. This is the second year we have been chosen to be part of the program.
As a Universal School every child is entitled to eat breakfast free of charge. A good breakfast will help our students have a good start at their academics.
Student Code of Conduct Handbook
Beginning this school year, 2011-2012, the Student Code of Conduct Handbook will be distributed to parents and students electronically.
Access to the handbook for the 2012 school year is available for on our school's website. The Acknowledgement, Media Release and FERPA Opt Out forms on pages 7, 8 and 9 will need to be printed, signed and returned to the school by Friday, August 19.
It is important to review the policy as it incorporates changes from previous versions. A list of the substantive changes can be found on page 6 of the handbook.
We're looking forward to a great 2011-2012 school year.
